Nashville-focused developers Adam Leibowitz and Andy Neuman are creating an LLC to acquire the property and are eyeing a June closing. The two men partner to oversee Double A Development, which has undertaken various acquisitions and development on the city’s east side.
Located at 824 Main St., the 0.57-acre property to be sold offers two buildings: one that housed Weiss Liquors and the other that accommodates Weiss Drive-In Market on a short-term lease.
The property has been owned by the Weiss family since at least 1966, according to Metro records. Kenneth Weiss acquired it from a relative in 2004 for $107,000.
The building that offered Weiss Liquors — the business was beloved by locals, in part, for its eye-catching modernist free-standing sign — suffered fire damage in January 2024 and the business never re-opened.
Once the LLC acquires the property, Leibowitz and Neuman will own a contiguous 4.86 acres of land and buildings. Their 800 Main Development Partners LLC already owns 800 Main St. (on which is located the multi-tenant EastSide Station building), 819 Woodland St. and 823 Woodland St.
That LLC acquired the 823 Woodland St. property — offering a building previously housing The Crying Wolf bar — for $2.85 million in late 2024 (read here). That structure will, in part, be home to pet grooming business Scenthound (read here). The 819 Woodland St. building houses Tenn Little Birds, which offers children’s music programs.
Leibowitz co-led the development of Main Street sites with Amplify on Main Apartments (see here) and hotel Fieldhouse Jones (now called Waymore’s Guest House and Casual Club; see here).
Leibowitz said he and Neuman hope to find new tenants for the two Weiss buildings. The partners will enlist Nashville-based Sagemont (Matt Cooper, Cameron Bice and Lanier Daniel) to handle marketing and leasing.
“We have been bullish on East Nashville since our first acquisition in 2008 with 800 Main St.,” Leibowitz told the Post.
“The Weiss Liquor property provides us with yet another opportunity to make improvements to existing structures. The tenant opportunities for this prominent East Nashville location run the gamut from food and beverage, entertainment, service business oriented and more.”
