KT will launch an “AX Delivery Specialized Center (tentative name)” within this month to help companies transform artificial intelligence (AX) and promote AI business-to-business (B2B) in earnest. The goal is to diversify the monotonous business structure that relies on the telecommunications sector for 95% of sales by putting the AI business on track.
KT CEO Kim Young-seop, who attended the Mobile World Congress 2025 held in Barcelona, Spain, said at a press conference held on the 4th (local time), “Since he took office in 2023, he has focused on improving his constitution and achieved results We will quickly increase the proportion of sales in the sector to 12%, he said.
CEO Kim said he will establish an “AX Delivery Specialized Center” with 300 people within this month. KT plans to commercialize AI specialized in Korean culture within the first half of this year and foster AX talent through all-round cooperation with Microsoft (MS).
The AX Delivery Specialized Center is an organization that cultivates human resources necessary for AX projects. CEO Kim’s plan is to form an “AX Transformation Dream Team” by adding 200 KT’s own manpower and 100 world-class professionals owned by MS. The center will take on the role of developing customized AX businesses or processing projects quickly that corporate customers need. CEO Kim said, “KT can also enjoy profits only when AI innovates its main business and customers earn profits,” adding, “We need to be good at communication, but we want to make sure that we move our focus to the B2B business and advance it to a further stage.” KT formed a strategic partnership with MS last year, and KT first introduced AI services to the entire business, and decided to pursue the AX conversion project after judging that it had achieved clear results through this. CEO Kim emphasized, “The topic of KT is ‘a complete transition to AICT Company.’
CEO Kim said that KT will build a “Korean AI” as it is a national key telecommunications operator. KT signed a partnership with Microsoft in September last year and announced that it will jointly develop “Korean AI” by utilizing OpenAI’s voice AI model, GPT-4o, and Microsoft’s small language model Pi. KT aims to provide safe services with in-depth Korean spirit, history, society, culture, and national views. In response to criticism that technology can be subordinated to MS, CEO Kim said, “If our level is low, we have no choice but to learn quickly and catch up quickly,” and dismissed concerns, saying, “I think the important thing is that our industry and consumers use AI well.”
KT plans to accelerate its public cloud business by developing AI in Korea. It announced that it will introduce a “secure public cloud (SPC)” within the first half of the year, which complies with domestic laws and regulations and has high security, independence, and large-scale expandability.
In addition, CEO Kim said that KT will continue to improve its constitution so that it can successfully grow its AICT business. KT will boldly securitize real estate assets such as hotels owned by KT and focus the funds secured through this on AICT projects. “KT’s main job is not real estate or hotels,” he said. “There are many places to invest, such as frequency, satellite, infrastructure, and AI, for 6G mobile communication in the future. We will grow our main business with financial resources secured through real estate securitization,” he said.
