Council Notes – December 2, 2025: Town News | Town of Edson

Community Futures West Yellowhead Delegation. A representative from Community Futures West Yellowhead provided an overview of services available in Edson, including the Town of Edson Small Business Loan program.

2025 Uncollectible Linear & Designated Industrial Property. The Town’s application for Provincial Education Requisition Credit (PERC) and Designated Industrial Requisition Credit (DIRC) for uncollected education property taxes was acknowledged. Administration was also authorized to write off and expense the 2025 uncollectible linear property taxes.

Property Tax Exemption. A property tax exemption was approved for the 2026 taxation year and for up to three consecutive years (2026–2028), subject to regulatory conditions, for the following organizations:

• Core Daycare Society
• Daycare Society of Edson
• Lions Club of Edson
• Edson Tumblers Gymnastics Club
• McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association
• Association Supporting Choices of People Edson (SCOPE)
• Edson Friendship Centre

Edson Pound Agreement – 1 Year Extension. A one-year extension was approved for Pound Services with Yellowhead County to allow time to explore and secure a potential third-party provider for Pound Keeper Services.

Accessible Swing Budget Request. The Accessible Swing Project Budget was increased from $150,600 to $151,600, funded by an additional $1,000 from the Parks Capital Reserve. This adjustment covers a $115 project overage and includes a bench addition, enhancing accessibility for individuals with low mobility and wheelchair users.

January 2026 Council & Committee of the Whole Meeting Schedule. A Regular Council meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Edson Civic Centre. The January 13 Regular Council meeting was cancelled, and a Committee of the Whole meeting was scheduled for the same date and time.

Motions Arising Out of Closed Session. The following motion was approved by Council following the closed session. 

• That Council direct Administration to proceed as discussed in the closed session regarding NW-9-53-17-5.

Next meetings—The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for December 9, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers. The next Town Council Meeting is scheduled for January 6, 2026, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers.
